My path to becoming a Naturopath has spanned several decades with heavy influence from my years leading organisations in conventional and natural medicines.
In the 1970s, I trained in Naturopathy, Iridology, Homeobotanical Therapy, Shiatsu, Remedial Massage and Neuro-linguist Programming. One day the bright lights beckoned and I left it all behind to pursue a career in business. I went back to university, part time, and did a B.A., Post Grad. Business Diploma, Post Grad. Diploma of Science and an MBA.
My first career was in the New Zealand Police where I rose through the ranks. I was the National Director: Training and in charge of one of the six police regions, when another dream beckoned. I wanted to run an organic farm. What started as a dream and a bit of dirt grew into the largest and most diverse organic production unit in NZ.
One sunny afternoon we were sitting in the sun drinking the last of the previous year’s vintage. A good friend told me about a social services organisation that did amazing work. It was dying for lack of leadership and business skills. I’m still not sure what happened, but a few weeks later, I gave up my country clothes for a suit, an apartment in the city and a job leading 500 passionate people.
A few years later I became the CEO of another health provider agency. I automatically assumed that the medical professionals were providing the very best care and yet I was troubled by their abysmal results when compared to some innovate integrated doctors and practitioners in different parts of the world. I was astounded by their closed mindedness.
I worked with various overseas institutions and foundations, running pilot programs in New Zealand. The results were amazing. People who had been on powerful drugs for the majority of their lives were coming off those drugs and experiencing a quality of life not previously experienced. More encouraging results led to more exploration and soon I discovered a wide range of integrative doctors, throughout the world, secretly providing a wide range of natural treatments for a range of conditions including: cancer, heart disease, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes and alleviating the symptoms associated with menopause and andropause and the diseases that go with these changes in life. Unfortunately many of these doctors were shunned by their more conservative colleagues and hounded by medical councils.
Eventually I grew weary of the constant negativity from the conventional medicine world, who funded many of our contracts. Their focus was on reporting, sticking to conventional medicine pathways and politics, to the exclusion of client recovery. I put my money where my mouth was and opened up my own integrated healthcare practice.
It was not so much a case of me finding cancer, but rather cancer finding me. During my post grad study in cancer, one of my lecturers told me that if I wanted to find the most effective cancer cures to just look at the different therapies that had been banned by the FDA (American Health Agency). That started me on a journey of disbelief. I could not comprehend why so many proven therapies were being kept away from the public. I started work with some of these therapies, first with dogs, who incidentally are brilliant clients. They do everything you tell them to. Now I work with people using both FDA approved and non approved protocols.
In addition to my management qualifications, in my pursuit for health related knowledge, I picked up some qualifications along the way. These include:
One other thing I would like to share with you. It relates to my time working in one of the largest rest home provider organisations. Every month I had the privilege of meeting with clients, one on one. They all said the same thing “Health is the most precious asset, I wish I had taken better care of it”.
